Bring the saree, not a photo

Phone cameras shift colours, especially maroons, wines and greens. Hold the saree against the blouse piece in daylight.

Match the border, not the body

For most sarees, a blouse matching the border or pallu looks richer than one matching the main body.

Contrast works too

Classic pairs: mustard with maroon, bottle green with pink, navy with gold, and black with almost anything that has zari.

Don't forget the petticoat

Match the petticoat to the saree body so it does not show through light fabrics.
